Today our post is not about us directly, but will be dedicated and honor the Chilean people that suffered from the military coup and dictatorship that lasted until 1990, which was lead by Agusto Pinochet.
It is today 40 years since the military took over “La Moneda” and killed our president Salvador Allende that was loved by so many.
He was seen to be bad for the American economy and the CIA and other companies therefore provided the military with all the weapons and money they needed for this.
There are not a lot of people that really know what happened during this period, not even the Chilean people. It has been forbidden to talk about this for so long. Being against the dictatorship was punished by torture and/or death.
Many families have til this day not recovered the bodies of their loved ones and have no clue what really happened to them . They are called “los desaparecidos” -”the lost ones”, the missing ones.
Our thoughts are with all of them!
We are always very happy and aware of that we are not fully Swedish and so much more fortunate than other Chileans. Today however we think about it more… we feel it more.
If our family had not fled they would have been murdered for sure!
My mothers neighbors were taken and tortured, some also brutally murdered.
My grandmother sometimes explains how she felt like a rat for not staying there and fighting and even dying for the democracy in Chile, but that she had to think of our family and what would be best for her children and their future.
This is the ultimate and greatest sacrifice that they made for us and there are no words that can explain how thankful we are !
We love our lives and we honor our family and all the Chilean people by educating us about this, by knowing, feeling, being strong and not oppressed, living our lives but most importantly by remembering and knowing where we come from.
Thank you all for fighting for human rights! Thanks for staying strong and loving despite what you have been through!
Thanks for teaching us about solidarity! Thanks’ for making us strong!
